Living With Cancer

You may have just found out that you have cancer, or you may be facing the challenges of treatment. You may be a survivor wondering what your future holds. You may be caring for a loved one with cancer and feeling the need for help. Whatever your situation, you are probably experiencing a range of emotions, making tough decisions and dealing with daily life. This is one of the hardest things you’ll ever go through; it’s important that you feel seen, understood and supported.

There is no single right approach and no simple answer to living with cancer. I offer support to help you:

  • Express your feelings without having to worry about the impact on loved ones
  • Find effective ways to cope with anxiety, depression, confusion, anger and guilt
  • Navigate changes in self and relationships
  • Identify what you need from others and what you don’t
  • Manage the challenges of the medical system
  • Process grief and loss
  • Explore end-of-life issues
  • Define and adjust to your new normal
  • Cultivate positive body image and sexuality
  • Tap into your inner strengths and resources
  • Move forward in ways that align with your values, beliefs and personality

I have a long history of working with cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones, beginning with my first post-college job as a Clinical Assistant at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. I have been involved with The Women’s Cancer Resource Center in Oakland for the past decade, providing in-home practical and emotional support as a Betts Volunteer, participating in the Continuing Education Program for therapists and facilitating support groups for women with cancer. I am passionate about supporting people through the emotions and life changes that accompany cancer diagnosis, treatment and healing.
