Living With Cancer
You may have just found out that you have cancer, or you may be facing the challenges of treatment. You may be a survivor wondering what your future holds. You may be caring for a loved one with cancer and feeling the need for help. Whatever your situation, you are probably experiencing a range of emotions, making tough decisions and dealing with daily life. This is one of the hardest things you’ll ever go through; it’s important that you feel seen, understood and supported.
There is no single right approach and no simple answer to living with cancer. I offer support to help you:
- Express your feelings without having to worry about the impact on loved ones
- Find effective ways to cope with anxiety, depression, confusion, anger and guilt
- Navigate changes in self and relationships
- Identify what you need from others and what you don’t
- Manage the challenges of the medical system
- Process grief and loss
- Explore end-of-life issues
- Define and adjust to your new normal
- Cultivate positive body image and sexuality
- Tap into your inner strengths and resources
- Move forward in ways that align with your values, beliefs and personality
I have a long history of working with cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones, beginning with my first post-college job as a Clinical Assistant at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. I have been involved with The Women’s Cancer Resource Center in Oakland for the past decade, providing in-home practical and emotional support as a Betts Volunteer, participating in the Continuing Education Program for therapists and facilitating support groups for women with cancer. I am passionate about supporting people through the emotions and life changes that accompany cancer diagnosis, treatment and healing.
